Waiting for Spring Manga Gets Side-Story Manga

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Main manga ended on Tuesday, with 13th volume slated for December 13

The November issue of Kodansha's Dessert magazine revealed on Tuesday that Anashin's Waiting for Spring (Harumatsu Bokura) manga will have a side-story manga that will debut in the magazine's January issue in November. The magazine did not specify if the new manga will be a one-shot chapter or a new serialization. The side story will center on "that person whom everyone is curious about."

The main manga also ended in the November issue. Kodansha will publish the manga's 13th and final compiled book volume on December 13. Anashin previously announced in June that the manga's 13th volume will be the last volume.

Kodansha Comics is publishing the manga in English, and it describes the story:

Mizuki (sic) is a shy girl who's about to enter high school, and vows to open herself up to new friendships. Of course, the four stars of the boys' basketball team weren't exactly the friends she had in mind! Yet, when they drop by the café where she works, the five quickly hit it off. Soon she's been accidentally thrust into the spotlight, targeted by jealous girls. And will she expand her mission to include…love?

Anashin launched Waiting for Spring in Kodansha's Dessert magazine in 2014. Kodansha published the manga's 12th compiled book volume on June 13. Kodansha Comics published the 10th volume in English on January 22. The manga was nominated in Kodansha's 41st Manga Awards in 2017, and the American Library Association's (ALA's) Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) listed the manga in its 2018 list of Great Graphic Novels for Teens.

The manga inspired a live-action film that opened in Japan last December and ranked at #7 at the Japanese box office.
