Grand Blue Dreaming Manga Gets TV Anime

College story centers on divers in seaside town

The cover of this year's fourth issue of Kodansha's Good! Afternoon magazine is revealing on March 7 that Kenji Inoue and Kimitake Yoshioka's Grand Blue Dreaming (Grand Blue) manga is getting a television anime adaptation.

The official website for the AnimeJapan 2018 convention previously briefly listed that Avex Pictures will introduce a number of new works at the event, including a "new Grand Blue anime." Good! Afternoon had additionally teased earlier this month that the manga would have "big news" in the fourth issue.

Kodansha Comics publishes the manga in English digitally, and it describes the story:

After moving out on his own to a seaside town, Iori Kitahara makes a college debut he never anticipated. A new chapter of his life unfolds, full of diving with beautiful girls and shenanigans with a gaggle of lovable bastards! Idiot-expert Kenji Inoue and au naturel authority Kimitake Yoshioka bring you a glorious college tale filled with booze-fueled antics!

Inoue and Yoshioka launched the manga in Good! Afternoon in April 2014. Kodansha published the manga's ninth volume last October. Kodansha will publish the 10th volume on March 7. The manga marks the first time Inoue is authoring an original manga work.

The manga was nominated in the Best General Manga category at Kodansha's 41st annual Manga Awards last year.
