Naruto's Masashi Kishimoto Considers Writing Sci-Fi Series Next

The October issue of Kadokawa's Entermix entertainment magazine published an interview with Naruto manga creator Masashi Kishimoto on Thursday, wherein he discussed his ideas for his next work.

Kishimoto says in the interview:

I've already decided what I'm going to write about in my next work. I'm thinking of writing a science-fiction work. I've already finalized the character designs. I think the protagonist is one that hasn't been seen before in manga, and while it's me saying it, I think that the character is done very well.

I want to think once more about the difference between what I want to write and what readers are looking for when reading my works. I started thinking about this by writing Naruto and various one-shots. Naruto became an unexpected hit, but I want to make my next work a hit as well by actually aiming to do so.

I don't know when I'll announce my new work, but please wait for my challenge of a work that will surpass Naruto.

Kishimoto added in the interview that the new manga will mostly likely not be a weekly serialization, due to the muscle strain put on him by the weekly Naruto serialization.

Kishimoto ended Naruto after 15 years of serialization last November. He then wrote the Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring one-volume sequel manga, and also worked on the script and character designs and served as the chief production supervisor on the Boruto -Naruto the Movie- film.

At a preview screening for the film in July, Boruto voice actress Yūko Sanpei said that she "wanted to see the films continue," and he responded with a wry smile, "I can't. Please let me rest now."

After finishing Naruto, Kishimoto said, "During this time, I finally went on my honeymoon. Even though my son has grown as big as [protagonist Naruto's son] Boruto." Kishimoto had gotten married over a decade ago.

Kishimoto will attend this year's New York Comic Con event on October 8-11.
