Kaasan - Mom's Life & My Three Daughters Unite in Crossover Manga

posted on by Egan Loo
Rieko Saibara, Pretz Matsumoto draw meeting between manga families after meeting in real life in July

Kaasan - Mom's Life (Mainichi Kaa-san, pictured right) and My Three Daughters (Uchi no 3 Shimai, pictured below), two manga that show the ups and downs of family life, will unite in a crossover manga that will run in the Mainichi Shimbun paper next Sunday. Rieko Saibara based her award-winning Kaasan - Mom's Life newspaper manga on her humorous everyday experiences raising her two children. Similarly, Pretz Matsumoto has been drawing a semi-autobiographical My Three Daughters manga blog about a mother raising three daughters.

The collaboration came about when Saibara and Matsumoto met for the first time in July during one of Saibara's celebrated "Saibara Rieko no Jinsei Garyoku Taiketsu" ("Rieko Saibara's Drawing Showdown") events. Each showdown pits Saibara against another manga creator in a mock drawing battle, in front of a live audience. The two creators hit it off, and they decided on the crossover as a special summer project.

The crossover begins when the family of Kaasan - Mom's Life visit the family of My Three Daughters.

Both manga series inspired television anime series. Crunchyroll streamed Kaasan - Mom's Life outside Japan.
