Indonesian publisher M&C! hinted at a license for Mitsu Izumi's manga adaptation of the AnoHana television anime last Friday.
The AnoHana anime premiered in Japan in 2011. The series follows five teenagers, once close friends, but now estranged from each other due to a childhood tragedy that took the life of one of their close friends Menma. Jinta, the group's former "leader," is now a loner in high school. One day, he begins seeing the ghost of Menma, and is even able to converse with her. Menma asks Jinta to fulfill Menma's one wish from when she was still alive. To do so, Jinta must reconnect with his old friends.
The original anime marked the second collaboration between director Tatsuyuki Nagai, writer Mari Okada, and character designer Masayoshi Tanaka, who all previously worked on Toradora!, and later would work together once more on The Anthem of the Heart.
Izumi's manga adaptation launched in Shueisha's Jump Square magazine in April 2012, and ended in 2013. Shueisha published three compiled book volumes for the manga.
Aside from the manga, the anime inspired a 2013 film sequel, and a 2015 live-action special.
