Can't wait to watch it! Do we know if the same director of past seasons will return?

Different series director, it's changed hands to Masahiro Shinohara. He does have a little bit of experience working on the show back in S1, but this is his first time being a series director rather just an episodic one.

Incidentally, he's also directing a movie later this year, titled "trapezium".

Pretty ambitious trailer for a series still six months out. But it'll definitely be my most-anticipated title of the Fall season.

Of course in true Subaru fashion everything starts off well before they gather all the candidates and their knights together and the Sin Archbishops and the Cult attack.

Which I find rather concerning. Because from what I've heard, the arc season 3 is covering is going to be high-demanding on the animation quality.

Likely arcs, plural, actually.

In which case, it only makes sense that this trailer would thoroughly showcase one of them. And later we'll get another trailer that shows off the other.

Now that raises the question of how many episodes it'll have. 25 like the prior seasons? Then there's also the matter of pacing.

Don't get the wrong idea. I want Re:Zero to do well, which is why I'm concern.

I read somewhere that it will have around 40 episodes. Hope that it will be true. The more episodes, the better.

I just hope it's a continuous showing and not split up like season 2. I want it to do what Spice and Wolf is doing (6 month run).

Arc 5 is definitely going to be more action-packed (it's structured almost like a shounen battle manga, where everyone splits off and fights different enemies, but ends in an unexpected, yet heavily foreahadowed twist that breaks the shounen formula). That said, the trailer is already showcasing stuff that happens over halfway through the arc, so it is my assumption that they have already made heavy progress on the show thus far, which would be a good thing. Alternatively, they could easily be condensing the arc by cutting the action scenes down to shorter snippits here and there, thus saving more time for the arc's emotional beats and plot-relevant points. This would probably be fine, as Re:Zero is not a shounen battle manga and only a few fights are truly relevant to the characters and plot. Not to mention, a lot of the stuff that is important to the arc happens off-screen in the novels, only revealed at the end of the arc and making sense of a lot of things that didn't logically make sense up to that point. I won't go any more specific than that, but it means a lot that happens in the arc doesn't need to be animated. They'll probably focus the budget shots on a few key moments instead, which will be great as they'll stand out more.

I won't say much about Arc 6 as I'm still reading it right now, but I think most fans assume arc 5 can be safely condensed in order to leave more room for arc 6, which is going to be far more dense. In fact, despite it being only one volume longer than arc 5 in the novels, I've heard people suggest it probably needs almost twice the amount of time that arc 5 has, so if arc 5 is not condensed, we're worried how many episodes will be left for arc 6.

Season 2 was originally supposed to run non-stop in Spring 2020 & Summer 2020. To be exact, it was supposed to start on Subaru's Birthday (April 1st) & end on Emilia's Birthday (Sept. 23rd). But the COVID-19 Pandemic disrupted practically everything. Which is why Season 2 was broken up to be released in Summer 2020 & Winter 2021.

But one thing is for sure, I hate momentum killing breaks. It feels like that the first time I've watched a part of an anime's season as it aired, go to waste. Why? I'll just say that I watch a lot of anime on a nightly basis (40+ anime titles from my waitlist in a 3-month span, to give you an idea). By the time the 2nd part airs, I'm likely going to forget what happened in the 1st part and I'll have to re-watch it again. Thus, making that "first watch as it aired" go to waste. And that also could've been time spent watching another anime title as it aired.

So, whenever I hear an anime I'm interested in has these momentum killing breaks, I'll just backlog them. When I know the final part will air, then I'll watch all the already released parts before the final part airs.

I would hate to do this with Re:Zero's 3rd season.

Like others have said, arc 5 is fairly action heavy and it's been a pretty regular talking point in the community since S2 (where the animation quality did take a dip, covid or not) weather White Fox can properly handle it. Having the trailer focus more on action rather than plot was probably a conscious decision to address that.

Also they changed Liliana's design, ditching the bikini she wore for more of a sports bra and shorts outfit. The female evil looking blonde they showed also switched to something less revealing. It's definitely a good change, their original designs would just attract unnecessary discourse, specially in the west.

And nice of them to go and all but confirm a popular fan theory in the trailer.
