I'm not an advocate for the death penalty but I guess I'm glad they've finally sentenced him.

Exactly the outcome I expected considering the nature of the crime and Japan’s judicial system.

This is justice. Thank you. He took (+hospitalized) the lives of so many people and negatively affected the lives of people connected to them. I hope many of those affected will be happy that he's no longer here.

I hope this'll give at least a little bit of closure to survivors and his victims' kin. I can't imagine what it must feel like to have to wait for such a sentence after going through something as terrible as this.

is it true that in Japan they don't actually tell the person the date of their execution? So you live in fear that every day is the last day?

I don't know if that's the intent but... to answer your general question...

Yes. In Japan, those who are sentenced to death are not informed of their execution date until the morning of the day they're to be executed.

This is justice served. I’m glad the victims will potentially have closure and can begin the process of healing themselves.

Well that is than.

Sentence has been made and now they will wait till the day he will be executed.

RIP to those that died and hope the remaining victims can find some form of peace after all this mess.

Wait... is it that they're just not told the date, or is it that they're not even told that they're sentenced to death?

But yeah, I've heard that the Japanese penal system is pretty harsh. Dunno what to make of that in general, but in this guy's specific case... good.

He's deleted for his derangement. Clearly a threat to society in general.

I am generally not for capital punishment, but there are some exceptions to that including this case.

Dude was nuts, but I think jail would have been enough, because he's clearly out of his mind.
If they can let a pedo author go, not sure why he couldn't get a break either. Last pedo they let go turned into Tsutomu Miyazaki, too.

Legitimacy of capital punishment aside, I think most people would agree that murdering one person is a slightly worse crime than molesting one kid, let alone murdering dozens of people vs not physically molesting any kids and just getting caught with underage material (if referring to Watsuki, which as far as I am aware was the case with him. If I am wrong about that, please inform me). Of course, having creepy tendencies often leads into much worse crimes, but courts don't punish people for things that they haven't done yet.

While I agree that his existence is foul and certainly won’t be missed, I am still of the mind that he shouldn’t have been given the death penalty. One can only hope now that he is executed swiftly; the sooner he stops being a (financial) liability to society, the better.

Good riddance to this worthless beast. Even though his punishment will be all too quick, and not make him to feel even a *fraction* of the pain and terror his victims had to endure, this long overdue justice can hopefully allow their souls to finally rest in peace.
