I would not be surprised if this is a monthly manga like Boruto. If I was Kishimoto I would not want to do a weekly series after doing it for 15 years. Of course he has been on a 3 year vacation at this point so maybe he's ready for the grind again.

It was almost three years ago when he said he wanted to do a Sci-Fi series. I wonder if the reason that took so long was because he wanted to plan the story out. In other words, avoid making the same mistake he made with the end of "Naruto."

I am actually suprised, one would think a an author as popular as he is wouldn't do a long series or in weekly increments after such as harsh grind... but maybe it won't be weekly this time, or he will be able to take weeks way more easily this time. And I suppose he can now hire all the assistants in the world to help him. Hmm well see.

I’m very intrigued. Hopefully it becomes a success. But if not, hopefully it’s just a quality series that develops a niche/cult following.

I'm sure people thought "Yu Yu Hakusho" would have been a tough act to follow when "Hunter x Hunter" started, but Togashi proved us wrong. Hell, Rumiko Takahashi has been writing the same story for 30 years, and she managed to have multiple hits.

I wonder if his new serialization will be in the magazine or on Jump Plus. I recall an interview where expressed interest in doing his next serial on Jump Plus because of the potentially less strenuous work schedule. Maybe his new work will be a bi-weekly instead of a weekly, if so. Then again, WSJ has lost a number of serials lately and Gintama's end is right around the corner, so he could make a return to the magazine in Sorachi-sensei's stead. Who knows...Looking forward to it, either way.

True! And Bakuman followed Death Note as well, not to the same success but definitely a moderate hit. So it’s more common than we actually may think. I’m just really wondering how different this is going to be from Naruto. It’s a completely different genre so I’m expecting something night and day.
Despite some of the flack Kishimoto gets, he is a very capable writer when he’s at his best so I welcome any work of his with open arms.

I'm excited that Kishimoto seems ready to start on a new long running manga and I'm curious to see what it's going to be like.

I can't wait to see his new Sci-Fi work. While his Naruto manga had more lows towards its end, I blame having to work night and day for 15 years. Doing something like that could deteriorate anyone's work. Since it's probably going to be monthly, it'll give him more time to think about what should happen next. I'll pray it gets similar success to other popular monthly series like AoT.

Though I didn't enjoy much beyond the Chuunin exam, I think Kishimoto can set up stories pretty well and usually has some really nice character designs. At the very least I'll give the new work a chance.

Difference is people with extraordinary talent vs one lucky huge hit. Kishimoto does not has the same talent as the people you cite. More than Tite Kubo definitelyt but almost the same, the guys got lucky with a huge hit, managed to make a good series for a few years, then it was evident that it was lacking in order to maintain the quality of the series.
Kishimoto wont be getting another huge hit. Initially whatever project he offers it will draw in many many readers riding the "naruto fame" independently of the quality of his new project, after a few volumes the time of truth will surface.

For normal mangakas probably. But geniuses like ODA who is the most hard working mangaka in business today, 21 years, 87 volumes and going strong without the quality of his working going down bit raises his hand. But comparing any mangaka to Oda is unfair.
